Isopropyl alcohol, also known as isopropanol or IPA, is an alcoholic mixture intended as an antiseptic for external use; it is also the most popular and widely used as a disinfectant it usually contains 70% by volume of absolute alcohol or isopropyl alcohol; the remainder consists of water, denaturants, and perfume oils.
Why Is 70% the Most Effective Concentration of Isopropyl Alcohol for Disinfection?
- Do not drink Isopropyl Alcohol. Doing so can be tragic. Just use it on your skin, and never let kids use it without supervision. Also, never use topical Isopropyl Alcohol to reduce fever doing so is ineffective and risky.
- Isopropyl Alcohol is extremely flammable, so never use it close to an open flame or high heat.
